Buying… affordable art
While the art world’s elite flocked to the Frieze Art Fair in London last week, the more financially astute among us will be waiting until tomorrow when the Affordable Art Fair returns to Battersea Park. The annual event is a chance to buy original photography, sculpture, paintings and prints, and 110 galleries will be exhibiting work by established and promising artists. There will also be a showcase of recent graduates – your best bet for a bargain. The most you’ll pay for any piece is £3,000 and there are some excellent investments to be made. An Antony Micallef painting bought for £1,600 last year is now reputedly worth more than £30,000. The Affordable Art Fair, Battersea Park, London, 23 to 26 October. Two-for-one entry on presentation of this page at the door (normal price £12).
